I went ahead and bought the best AGP card left, the x800xt.

I haven't upgraded in a year and a half tho, so it IS justified :)

I'm hoping to get a 64 bit AMD processor and new MB by the end of 1st quarter...

But prolly not. Bookshelves costed too much.

I got my wife a 6600GT (we are also AGP constrained) for Christmas.

Speaking of upgrades, I've got this new stick of Corsair P2700 RAM that it turns out I can't use (I thought I had the Foxxconn 651M02 mobo, but it turns out I've got the 650M02 ... oops). A 1 Gig stick. Corsair CMSS1GBR72-333 1GB PC2700 DDR, to be precise.

If there's anyone using a 1GB stick of P2100 RAM that has a mobo that could use the P2700 and would like to swap (call it a ultra-mini-upgrade), let me know. I'll pay for shipping both ways.

I'm not completely sure if the P2700 is ECC or not (I think it is), but I can only use a Non-ECC P2100.

TPR, everything I've read indicates you can use 2700 RAM with your mobo.

Like this place.

Or is it that you already have some 2100, and want to have 2?

You'd think so, but when I plugged it in it wouldn't take it. Then I consulted the actual paper manual (it's for both models), and it's got a footnote in it that: "PC 2700 supported on 651M02 only".

I am sad. :(

I've bought a PC 2100 since (still en route), and I can save this one for my next upgrade, but I figured if anyone was interested in a swap I'd be up for it.

Well that sucks. At least in the good ole SDRAM days the RAM would just operate at the lower mhz.

Might be upgrading in a couple months. All depends on how much the rent is at the new place & how much taxes crush my testicles.

You bought bookshelves for a bunch of empty boxes instead of a PC upgrade?!?!?!?

Damn, you're getting hit HARD by that baby = lower IQ thing or something.

The boxes aren't empty, anymore.

And I've earmarked a portion of this year's income tax refund for a new rig. Go-go deduction for new baby!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, by the way, I did recently upgrade from an AMD 2100+XP, 1 GB RAM, GeForce 6800 GT AGP to AMD64 3500+, 1 GB RAM (Daul channel or whatever it's called), GeForce 7800 GT PCI-E. Still running with an old ATA 100 hard drive though. As far as EVE, I see much smoother frame rates and I'm not affected by the mem leak nearly as much. I can't think of a time where my view locked up while looking around space, etc since upgrading. There's the occational loading delay when I warp/jump into a populated area, but I blame lag rather than hardware. I still see the mem leak (not as bad as before though. They may be making progress there. I haven't had to restart during play in quiet a few days), but it doesn't start acting poorly at 650 MB like it use to. I could play right through that.

So, the upgrade did help, but not overwhelmingly. Of course, other games play much nicer, and I'm looking forward to loading up Call of Duty II. But that's for another thread. . .

By the way, what is better SATA 150 or SATA 3.0GB? I see both out there, at about the same price. No idea which is suppose to be better.

Sata 2 is better, but only if your mobo supports it.

I personally went with the 74GB 10k RPM SATA Raptor. hot.

Which is SATA 2? Or is SATA 2 something other than SATA 150 or SATA 3.0GB?

Sata 2 is 3.0GB, aka 300. Sata I is 1.5GB aka 150.

Sata 2 has NCQ (native command queueing) built-in, with SATA 1 the drive has to support it (and the controller too, i think).

Basically, whichever you choose, it will be at least 100% better than ATA

I want to say I bought my 320 GB SATA drive from newegg.com for $120. Not sure of which type it was, though.
