Building a DOS gaming box. I've never been able to figure out how to get DOS emulators working correctly.

I'll say this for Microsoft, they streamlined installation with XP.

I'm pulling my hair out trying to get this damned NIC installed. Two days now. Missing .dll's left and right. I'm currently reloading Win98... system can't even find ipconfig.exe.

You should try a virtual machine, if you don't think it'd be a waste of your time.

I think it would work well with DOS stuff. Would still he the install issues, but easier to manage instead of a dual-boot or dedicated machine.

Win98 uses winipcfg.exe, not ipconfig.exe.

Are you using an older network card? May have issues finding drivers otherwise.

Nah, there was something seriously wrong with the initial OS install... trying to set up TCP/IP, was getting "can't find ping.exe on win98 cd"... like, 75 of those missing file messgaes.

Reload of OS over bad install fix0red it.

Looks good, now. Just need to figure out where this box is going to live.

Have you tried DosBox?

I know this isn't about building a new machine but I use the program a little bit and what games I have tried it on seem to work well.

The hardest part is getting the speed right but that is more personal preference than anything else.

Gorrammit.

Doesn't look like you can use a DOS app over VNC. I was planning on doing that.

Hmmm. Graphics no, but keyboard commands, yes... so maybe good for now.

What's funny is that Lord British named his game "Ultima: I" before there existed an "Ultima II."

Gold star to the dude that can name the game that should probably be called Ultima 0.
