Dark Feed - At 'Dem Flicks with Malcolm

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Synopsis:
Film crew shoots a horror movie inside a condemned mental asylum.

Review:
This plot isn't even original, but the film crew, with a couple exceptions, starts going batshit loony in a way that kind of reminds me of Event Horizon or Ghosts of Mars.

Where the dierctor get points is what he chose to focus on to generate the terror. Many of the kills are done off-screen or simply use copious amounts of fake blood. Tricks are used to keep the actual gore minimal (like someone getting stabbed behind blurry glass).

Much of the fear here is more extreme discomfort, especially if you get squeamish around sharp or piercing things. The crazies tend to start self-mutilating as they go crazy. Sometimes it's obvious how that's going to happen. Sometimes it's a red herring.

Verdict:
If you're a genre fan, check it. Don't expect anything special or original. It's a boilerplate plot, cast of characters, and setting, but they aren't completely wasted. Also, unless you moonlight as a medical examiner or body-piercing artist, there's probably going to be at least one scene that makes you cringe. I'll give this a 5 of 10.
