The more I hear about this film, the more it dawns on me that they're remaking Evil Dead, not Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness. Thus, I'm thinking they're going the no comedy route and are simply shooting a horror film and trying to capitalize on the franchise name.

It was "Americanized" by Diablo Cody since the two dudes who wrote it weren't fluent. Nothing against them (yet, as I've not seen the flick), but the literary abilities of the former are laughable.

The writing, and maybe it was the translation..., was horrific. Nobody acted like real people. There was no reason for the reading of the passage. The biggest flaw is the convenient "pausing" of everyone else so that things can occur in front of the camera. That means that although people are just off camera, they don't respond to anything occcurring in front of the camera.
Stupid.
Watch it when it hits Netflix, but this was nothing more than an attempting at being gross and cashing in on a name.
