The Town

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Ben Affleck stars in and directs this film about bank robbers.

Ben is the leader of a crew from Charlestown, a neighborhood in Boston that leads the world in producing bank robbers. His right hand man is played by Jeremy Renner who is at a huge disadvantage without his bow. Blake Lively plays Renner's sister and is honestly pretty convincing as a small town drunken whore who is pretty enough to get by on her looks.

Anyway, after a bank robbery where Renner's character does something unusual for the crew, Ben snoops on a potential witness, Rebecca Hall. (I didn't know who she was, but she'll apparently be in Iron Man 3. She's a good actress.)

Ok, let me stop right there and say that this part of the story is ridiculous. There was no reason for them to be concerned about her at all. What the hell would staking her out even accomplish besides exposing yourself? In fact, it creates a massive hole in the plot because they took her license. The cops and the FBI would know that, and would relocate her even if she didn't relocate herself. Meaning they wouldn't have found her or would have been staking her out.

Anyway, the story is mainly about Ben trying to live a life, while also being dragged into the "family business" of robbing banks.

Aside from the gaping hole in the plot thanks to the witness, it's a good flick. The action is solid and everyone brought their acting A games. Very good pacing as well. Only a few slow moments.

I should mention that Jon Hamm plays the head FBI agent tracking Ben's crew and he does a really good job.

A good film to watch with your significant other.

7 out of 10.
