Funny People

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Adam Sandler is a rich and famous comedian that finds out he's dying. He hires Seth Rogan, for some reason, to write some jokes for him. They become friends while Sandler and Rogan deal with the impending death.

This film was odd and long.

It's not laugh out loud funny, but there are some good moments and lines, particularly if you like stand up comedy. LOTS of standup cameos. Even Eminem has a cameo, and it's sort of funny.

The story, however, is dark. Sandler is not a sympathetic character. Ok, he is initially, but he loses that later, and at the final moment, the film makers try to give it back. Meanwhile, Rogan comes off as the actual victim. Even his friends seem like bad guys at various times.

Like I said, it's a weird film. I can't really get into more specifics without spoilers.

I can say there's a few romantic subplots that are anything but what you normally see. The one involving Rogan is completely fucked, and the resolution is pure insanity. Only a complete cuckold would accept that situation. Surely not a man who the film makers want you to think has grown throughout the film.

I've got to give this a 4 out of 10 due to the ridiculous length (it'd be worth it if there was substance to fill that time), and the horrible romantic subplots.
