Push

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Considering how this one disappeared so quickly from the theaters and how little was heard about this one, I was expecting it to be a big turd. It was actually a pretty decent flick.

There was the supernatural aspect to the characters, but the plot wasn't completely driven by that. It was sort of a "Heroes" meets "Oceans Eleven".

Actually much of it reminded me of "Heroes" except it didn't fade in the finale.

I'd give it 7 out of 10.

The commercial make it look like a bunch of jedis without light sabers fighting each other.

Yeah, they did a piss poor job of representing the movie in the trailers. There were two of them that had telekinesis. There were others that could get in your head. Some that saw the future. They ran the menu of psi abilities.

This previews for this movie reminded me of the X-Men, and they've been around a lot longer than Jedi.

Saw this over the weekend and wasn't particularly impressed.

My first thought when I first saw the trailer for this film was that Hollywood was trying to capitalize on the super hero trend without paying someone for the rights to an established character. That's pretty accurate.

So in this universe, Hitler started the trend of experimenting on humans and studying those who might have certain abilities (IE: mutants). After the war every government did the same. In the end there were only a handful of abilities: telekinetic (Jean Grey/Phoenix), telepathic (Charles Xavier), illusionists (Mastermind), those who can shatter things with their voices (Banshee), and those who can see the future (Destiny). As you can guess, the names next to the ability are the names of X-Men characters with those abilities. However, these film makers were smart to not call say, a telekinetic a telekinetic. They call them "movers". Whether you want to believe they're dumbing shit down for the masses or doing everything they can to avoid a lawsuit, it gives the movie a "also ran" feel right from the onset.

The story has a woman escaping from a government facility after having a drug tested on her. The drug, if I heard the story correctly, was supposed to enhance the abilities of these mutants (I'm calling them that because that's what they are and I'm not going to call them by their stupid names.)

Anyway, the girl is sought after by the agency tasked with controlling mutants ("Division"), some gangster bad guys, and the protagonists. The protagonists include Dakota Fanning (in her worst performance ever, but I blame the material not her), who is a future seer, and Chris Evans as the male lead who happens to be a telekinetic.

They try to get the girl because she's important. Why? Because she survived the drug. How'd she do that? Who knows? Why is that important? Your guess is as good as mine.

Throughout the movie they're pursued by the apparently evil, but not, Division Agent Carver played well by Djimon Hounsou. Why the most important mutant ever would be pursued by a single agent from a huge agency like that is beyond me, but it happens here.

And that's my problem with Push. While the action is decent, the story is complete crap. It is loaded with logic holes from top to bottom. This is one of those films that you could fill a page just talking about the flaws in the plot.

On top of that the pacing is horrible. The story drags so badly throughout the film that unless there's an X-Man...I mean mutant...I mean telekinetic...I mean Mover...on screen actually using their powers, you'll be bored to tears.

Vince's "Ocean's Eleven" thing is only the last 15 minutes or so, so I don't really agree with that comparison, but I get what he was saying. And that last 15 minutes? Utter crap.

The more I think about this film, the more I think of new flaws in the plot. I don't mind if a film changes the rules of science or whatever, just be consistent and don't break your own rules. This film is not consistent and breaks its own rules.

An utterly boring film with some cool action sequences.

4 out of 10.
