Wolverine

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Star, director, and writer all locked in.

I really have doubts about this film. Wolverine is a really violent character whose past is all about very dark, adult themes and I don't think all that translates well into a PG-13 movie. Look at how restrained they had to make him for the X-Men films.

I thought the same thing Malcolm.

Neither the writer or director have a great resume and they're going after one of the most complex characters imaginable.

Good luck to this film.

The director managed to pull off an Oscar for best foreign language film. We'll see if he's of the ilk that can shrug off bad writing, though.

You and I know Wolverine is a complex character. Hollywood sees a successful comic book franchise it can rape and pillage.

I thought "Wolverine" was the title of the Red Dawn remake.

Well, there is some hope. Apparently, he's one of the hottest screenwriters in Hollywood, in terms of people wanting to hire him. He turned down several big offers, including some big franchises because he wanted Wolverine. He says he's been reading Wolverine since he was 4 and still does today.

I've heard rumors that Maverick and Silver Samurai will be in the film as well as Sabertooth. I find the Sabertooth inclusion to be interesting timing...(that alludes to a spoiler, so I won't reveal it.)

I've also heard that while you probably won't see any characters from the X films, you will see some known characters. Anna P., the chick who played Rogue, has expressed interest in her character appearing.

Here's hoping there's no Jubilee.

Well, hell, I thought the cinematic X-Men canon now just had swapped out Jubilee's schtick w\ Wolverine for Rogue's schtick w\ Wolverine. I would assume, by all logic dependent on or independent of the flick, that there would be no Jubilee.

& just cos he's a hot screenwriter doesn't mean he can write for shit. It means he can trick people into thinking he can write for shit. I trust my judgment more than a producer's when it comes to determining what is & is not a watchable flick.

& his relationship w\ Sabretooth'd best be something very fucking special.

I just mean that I hope they don't try to play up his role as mentor for Jubilee or Kitty Pryde and let this flick be about ass kicking.

The "hot" stuff doesn't mean shit to me, but turning down other gigs to get this one and being a lifetime Wolvie fan...that has some promise.

Wolvie/Sabertooth needs a spoiler thread.

Update.

Sabertooth, Col. Striker, Silver Fox, Gambit (Why?), John Wrath, and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.

That's a lot of folks from the Weapon X days, so I think the movie will be visiting Wolvie's past.

The biggest news is Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. That has "Role he was born to play" potential. Here's hoping they go through with the spinoff film.

For those who don't know Deadlpool, picture Wolverine only more as a...normal height white guy mercenary. Strip away the adamantium laced bones and claws, keep the healing factor, but add in horrific facial scaring and cancer. (I think the scaring and the cancer go hand in hand.) Now throw in Spider-Man's continuous banter only tweak it to be a lot more adult. Liberally add every conceivable weapon The Punisher ever dreamed of, and finally, top it off with the Joker's peaceful nature.

That's Deadpool.

I'd like to remind you that the last time Ryan was given a comic book role in which he tried to be a wise-crackin' psycho wise-ass, it was his attempt at Hannibal King in Blade : Trinity. I ain't got faith in him to make the role kick ass. Someone is gonna have to write it bad-ass & pray he don't fuck it up.

Yeah, I remember Hannibal, but I'm telling you, Ryan's style of delivery fits Deadpool. He's very insane, but completely cocky and sure of himself. It fits how reynolds comes off.

Plus, Deadpool wears a mask so it'll just be his speaking style that shines.

Eh, maybe. I'd just be a little less wary were I convinced Ryan's IQ topped 70. He just seems like a fucking idiot. I'm not sold on the idea that he's got the mental capacity to do things correctly.

He was the only reason I liked Trinity.

It was "horse humping thundercunt."

& that flick sucked. Bad. I'm even inclined to cut Ryan some slack there since he was reduced to comic relief in the script & probably did the best he could w\ what was a shit deal.

But his performance still sucked. Hard. I hope his talent has taken a big upswing since then.

People would describe Deadpool in a similar way. Like I said, it could be "his" role.

I think the people who think Deadpool's a moron are wrong. There's a difference between stupid and insane/crazy/psycho.

Plenty of sharp people can still be nuttier than an elephant shit in a peanut factory.

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool! That is really encouraging. I can definitely see him doing it. Malcolm he doesn't have to be a genius. He just has to read his lines convincingly.

That one issue where Deadpool beat the shit our of a Ninja instructor was hilarious. I was one of the first 10.
