10 movies that got it wrong

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

In terms of predicting the future...

I don't like this list, but I'm posting it for one film in particular. You know the film because as soon as you saw what this list was about you immediately wondered if it was on there. Yes, 1984 made the list as the final entry. Yes, the comments are already full of folks who are claiming 1984 may not have nailed the future exactly, but it's pretty fucking close. Hell, even the writer makes a pun about our world of surveillance, which makes the film's inclusion confusing.

Still, after my curiosity about that was appeased, I realized something else about the list bugged me. As of today, we haven't reached the date that four of the films are set in. Granted, the facts of their world might seem impossible to achieve by those dates, but it's still arrogant of the writer to assume they can't take place.

For example, in Soylent Green the writer points out that the film has 40 million people living in New York, yet in reality there are only 8 million. Actually, there are more if you count the suburbs. But how do we know some catastrophe doesn't occur in the near future that drives folks to New York?

Funniest bit in the comments:
Poster #1 - "Why isn't The Day After Tomorrow on this list? It never happened and it's already been the day after tomorrow."
Poster #2 - "Actually the producers gave it the perfect name. It will always be a prediction of the future as it will always be set the day after tomorrow."
“Activism is a way for useless people to feel important, even if the consequences of their activism are counterproductive for those they claim to be helping and damaging to the fabric of society as a whole.” - Dr Thomas Sowell
