I Think I Love My Wife - Spoilers are marked.
Chris Rock stars as the typical married man.
That's actually description enough, but for those women who may read this, I'll continue.
Chris is married with two (maybe three, they're not a big part of the film) kids and marriage has gotten dull. The major problem is that he and his wife never have sex anymore causing Chris to let his mind wander. He doesn't do anything bad until an old friend pops back into his life who happens to be smoking hot. Now he's being tempted to take a leap and step away from his dull life into something more exciting. (Funnier when you watch the movie thinking this is the guy who said "A man is only as faithful as his options.")
This is one of those films that you know what it is going in and it doesn't disappoint, but it is still entertaining.
Whomever wrote this film was either divorced or had an opened minded wife because a lot gets said that should piss off your wife if she's watching. So you know that the writer's wife probably thought the film was about her marriage and we all know how much women love criticism.
I do like the amount of stuff he puts up with just to be in the relationship with the new friend. There's a LOT of truth in how much BS a man will put up with if he thinks there's a chance he could get laid.
Overall, this is a decent rental. There are some pretty good lines throughout that should get a laugh out of you. It probably won't be as interesting to some depending on your situation or how you lived when you were single, but for others I think it might hit pretty close to home. I encourage anyone to watch it with their wife and let us know how she responded.
"Why'd you pick this movie?" "Do you feel like he does?" "Do we have sex enough for you?" Etc.
If you're wondering, no I didn't watch it with the wife, but I do know women enough to know how they might act while watching such a film.
Anyway, an entertaining film that's worth a rental if you're the type who will relate to it. All others need not apply.

I don't think the writers were as honest as they could've been. Yeah, they do put all women in the fire in the early stages of the movie, but they don't poke them with sticks while they're burning and they should've. Hey, if you're going to make a movie like this, don't pussy out, go all the way. I think they should've also discussed the kids and finances more. Kids are the forgotten issue is any movie regarding infidelity. In fact, of the couples I know who should've gotten divorced or did after many years the two reasons I always hear for their longevity are "We stayed together for the kids" and "We couldn't afford to get divorced".

I always thought that the former was almost the fucking worst reason you could've to stay married. I'm betting one or both of them are married.
See the movie and you'll understand what I mean. Anyone who has been married or even in a long term relationship can see where they made concessions to spare their real lives any turmoil.
I agree with you in the majority of cases, outside of the extreme. I mean if your kid is 16, wait it out, the divorce will take that long anyway.
You know, the true mistakes in those relationships are made long before the kid comes along. Marriage and procreation are too easy to do.

Well, legally, sure. But it only takes a couple seconds to walk or throw someone the fuck out the door.Leisher wrote:I agree with you in the majority of cases, outside of the extreme. I mean if your kid is 16, wait it out, the divorce will take that long anyway.

That's not even guaranteed. A lot of married couples have to live together on advice from attorneys to save money, for rights to the house, etc.

I shall simply say that there was a period of time when the difference betwixt myself & any other unhappily married man was damn near nil. & it's by no means beyond the power of my imagination to simulate the misery that would've happened'd things continued.
