Another remake?

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Article.

The article is actually about I Am Legend not being shown in China on its initial release date, however one paragraph caught my eye:
Smith said he has discussed other movie projects with Han and mentioned that he's exploring the idea of a remake of "The Karate Kid" possibly set in Hong Kong or Beijing.

While I don't doubt someone out there is working on a Karate Kid remake when I read that on yahoo the first thing I thought was what a lame ass lie.

Like some Chinese government official cares if a karate movie is going to be made or if it is going to be set in China. Unless it is singing the praises of the Chinese government why would he care.

As for the film itself. I have gone on record as being all for sci fi/action/fantasy film remakes but this falls under the catagory of what could be added or improved upon? Was there another Paint the fence/Wax on Wax off training method they left out?

Goddamnit, I would kill to see a graph of the number of remakes done per year for the past, I dunno, 20 or so years.
