You can determine your potential enjoyment of this film by the following statement:
"The Marine was much better when it was called Commando."
John Cena is no Arnie, but in his defense, he doesn't try to be. He actually plays the role pretty straight laced with no one liners.
Actually, the villains lead by Robert Patrick seem to get the most screen time here. They play their roles cheesey and have one liners.
It's actually quite odd in that respect.
In fact, the whole film seems to be a mix of trying to be serious, while also poking fun at itself. Very odd.
The Marine really does have almost exactly the same story as the one from Commando except not as deep or as developed. That explains why it runs so short too.
The action is ok, but nothing "must see" or new.
It's worth the rental, but only for action fans.
5 out of 10.
