Book: World War Z

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I was sucked in by page 2. Not even half way through yet, but it's a fun read.

Written by Max Brooks, the son of Mel, it is a fictional retrospective of the Great Zombie War that happened a few years ago. The narrator goes around getting stories of what seemingly random people did during the war... even the book's dust jacket, where it ordinarily has a blurb about the author, keeps the fiction going by telling us how the author survived the war.

It's a great universe he is developing, considering it is all characterization. I'd love to see this as a movie.

There was one anecdote from an arab that escaped from Kuwait to Israel... I was shocked at how pro-Jew it was being, as I'm used to media-artist-types to be very liberal... but then I remembered who the author was.

Lots of twists, even in a 2-page narrative. This guy is a great writer.

I like how the military started refering to the zombies as "Zack."

And how one of the narrators was surprised when the Marines ended up being really good at improvising new weapons with which to kill Zack.

"When in position and waiting for the enemy to come into range, British troops would keep their cool with bagpipers. African troops would rythmically strike Zulu spears against their rifles. American troops would set up loudspeakers and blast Iron Maiden."

T'was an excellent book.
