This new Miami Vice movie.

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

In the 80's when the TV show came out, it was inniovative as it was intended to be an MTV-Cop Show (For you yung'uns, MTV was still cool in the 80's).

Since then most "hip, cool" cop shows have borrowed heavily from the style of the 80's Miami Vice... fast, cool cars, cool clothes, smokey pop rock music... think Bad Boys, (which even takes place in Miami), SWAT, and other stuff I can't think of at the moment.

What can a Miami Vice movie possibly bring to the table 20 years after it became cliche? My early prdiction is that unless there is a hell of a story and characterization, this movie will be barely tolerable at best and shitty at worst.

Is it a comedy? It could work then, otherwise I don't see the point.

What made miami vice cool has already been copied by everyone else.

I'm thinking another Stiller/Wilson team-up...

Colin Farrell .... Det. James 'Sonny' Crockett
Jamie Foxx .... Det. Ricardo Tubbs

Didn't Foxx win an academy award, or something?

Early word I've heard is that after filming was over Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell hated each other. Their main problem was Colin's constant drinking and showing up drunk to shoot scenes.

I hear they have zero chemistry on screen.

The movie is also obviously being played up like a very tense drama, which the original series did VERY well on a few occasions, but the trailers come off as a jumbled mess.

Dear fucking Christ. Colin just keeps getting cop/gov't agent roles. I don't think he can pull it off. Jamie is like the black Thomas Hulce (the dude that played Mozart in "Amadeus"). I've seen him in ONE & only one film where he gave a decent performance. I don't envision him winning any more awards.

He needs to stick to roles like Bullseye. I've wanted to fucking kill him every other time he's been on screen.

I have Amadeus on DVD.

You have to turn the disk over half-way through the movie.

My first copy of Goodfellas was like that.

Miami Vice movie looks like repackaged dog shit.

Michael Mann is directing it, so I think it has a good shot at being decent.

But the real question is will the soundtrack feature any of Don Johnson's music?

Along the lines of 80's tv shows being made into to movies, they are making Magnum, PI. Dear God, when is someone going to get an original idea? I guess that's why the 'critics' are praising gay cowboys and trannies. At least it's something different.

Long as he doesn't use the same lame-ass writer that penned the last thiry minutes of "Collateral."
