Wife got the kid a camera for xmas that he doesn't need, and a regular USB cable would not PnP it to Windows... research said it needed the Nikon proprietary software.... which still didn't work... and now I am having trouble uninstalling the shit from the computer. Nikon wrote it to not have the "uninstall" options, anywhere.

Fuck non-USB connectors unless it's a nice set of headphones.

Funniest part of the whole thing is the fucking USB cable wasn't even included in the box. I had one that fit but amazon was displaying ones that almost looked Nikon proprietary. Never was sure. If so, that would explain why Win7 wasn't picking up the USB interface from the generic cable I used. Either way, fuck Nikon.
