Bet you a dollar.... - Post your long-odds speculations here.
Hey NSA and Secret Service: this is not a death threat, this is just speculation.
I predict that if the Dems lose badly in the mid-terms, Obama is going to be assassinated. It will be the dems who orchestrate it. Obama's legacy is getting so bad that he is going to damage the party for a decade, but they will feel it can be salvaged if the nation feels sympathy because he is killed.
It will be pretty close to the next presidential elections.... not so close that people get over it before voting day, but not so late that the dems won't use it to sway the election. Say.... a month? So I am predicting that Obama will be assassinated by operatives of the democratic party by October, 2016.
It will all unravel when someone discovers one of the official "obama was assassinated so we need to keep supporting his policies" videos (or the paper trail that created it) had a date stamp a week before he was killed. But, the next dem was already elected president, and this will piss off a lot of people, and this is what will tip the country into armed revolution.
So, I bet a dollar that all that.

Kennedy's assassination shows a year is plenty close enough for the party to still reap the rewards of something like that. I don't think it'd be the party, but some extreme leftist that feels sold out by the party. Both Kennedy's were killed by leftists.
I think the Democrats and Republicans alike see those of us that want smaller less intrusive government as a much bigger enemy than the other party. There's a reason the Republicans are really going after the IRS and NSA other than just enough to make the Democrats look bad. They want that power themselves.
For all of W's faults, he did raise the alarm on the issues with Freddy and Fanny and the housing market throughout his time in office. He did this when both the Republicans and the Democrats were in power in the House and Senate. And one part did jack and the other squat about it. It was in their personal interest to keep it going.
More likely would be both parties working together to sacrifice someone to get gun control enacted if they felt that we were approaching a civil war where their power was threatened.

I don't know. Bush Derangement Syndrome is still in effect. For the last 15 years they have told us that being conservative is a mental illness, opposition to Obama is racist, freedom of speech does not apply to republicans,, and that Republicans actually are trying to oppress women. All of it is insanity, but it is out there, festering in their minds.
I think the dems are whipping themselves up to a "by any means necessary" crossroads. They hated Bush because they wanted to, they thought they had a messiah in Obama but he ended up being Clint's empty chair, and now they are willing to put him on the cross as a martyr to their cause. I predict. He will end up being more valuable to them dead than alive.
Also, let's not forget the race riots that will happen. If they are focused properly they could wipe out lots of conservative enclaves.

The fuck?
You don't think we would have the mother of all riots if Obama got killed?
Memphis and Atlanta would burn to the ground.

Atlanta should be used to it.
Sure there'd be riots. No worse than LA.

Yes, the L.A. riots closed Compton for... what... 3 days?
Now multiply that by every city with a black population of some critical mass I don't know. Add Cleveland to the list. Probably NYC. I would bet at least 20 cities in the US would be shut down for days.

Maybe five or six. I don't think it hits double digits. It'd be one work week at most, too.

Ha, Detroit actually crossed my mind, but the population density is so low now that exactly, how would you tell? So another hundred abandoned houses get torched. Typical Halloween.TPRJones wrote:Don't forget Detroit.Add Cleveland to the list. Probably NYC.
Although if there was a riot in Detroit how could you tell?

Yeah, honestly can't tell you how many cities have a black population density of X, X being critical mass for riots. Baltimore, I bet. Maybe Philly.Malcolm wrote:Maybe five or six. There's no way it's worse than the riots after MLK, Jr. got shot.GORDON wrote:Yeah, honestly can't tell you how many cities have a black population density of X, X being critical mass for riots. You think the racial environment and mood now is no different than it was 45 years ago? I disagree, but I am willing to consider your argument.
45 years ago you had some black militants, and (rightfully) angry black youths, but then a whole lot of blacks who had been cowed by Jim Crow. They wouldn't say shit if they had a mouth full of it.
Today, everything is racist and if you're white you're automatically racist and all rich people hate the poors and everybody hates cops and we finally got a black brother in the White House and now some cracker goes and kills him? The 60's had Malcolm X stirring them up, but even then black leaders were telling their people to better themselves, they are men, not animals. But today we have Sharpton and Jesse Jackson telling them why none of their problems are their fault. When they try to self correct from within their own community, they get called rapists. In the 60's blacks were crossing racial barriers trying to get a higher education, today they have it all and don't utilize it, and they fight for their right to let their pants hang off their asses.
So that's my argument.

I would generally agree with that, but I'd bet the riots of today would be less damaging and violent than those of yesteryear. Widespread riots today would be more about twitter and facebook and shouting than about smashing up everything and setting the world on fire.
People are bitchier, yes, but I think they're also less prone to physical violence. On average.

That's a tough one. We have people playing "the knockout game" because they're bored today. I forget what the name of the stupid game in Memphis was that was all over the Internet a few weeks ago, but that was again just because some kids were bored.TPRJones wrote:People are bitchier, yes, but I think they're also less prone to physical violence. But violence on average is supposedly down. And we have kids with nothing to believe in joining ISIS because they're wanting SOMETHING they can believe in and fight for.

There are always some violent assholes. And the number of them may in fact be increasing slightly but the statistics would indicate if so they are increasing at a much smaller rate than the general population.
There's no clear evidence that the number of violent assholes is in fact decreasing, but I think it is.
Back during the previously referenced historical riots, we had people lynching blacks because they were bored that day. By comparison the knockout game seems like an improvement.
EDIT: Am I saying lynching happened a lot then? No, but it did happen. Probably about as often as the knockout game happens now. Which is not very often. But still more than any reasonable person would like it to happen.

It's not exactly because they're bored. They want notoriety, respect, wallets, etc. When kids are bored, they fire up their smartphone. If they don't have one, they work on getting one. Those dim enough to perpetrate assault and film it and demonstrating less knowledge than criminals of yore. Bonnie and Clyde didn't hire a fucking camera crew before robbing a bank. Only a few Old West thieves were dumb enough to pose for photographs.
And we have kids with nothing to believe in joining ISIS because they're wanting SOMETHING they can believe in and fight for.
Different than joining Jim Jones's cult, how? They're joining ISIS because they're batshit insane and religious zealots. They want notoriety and respect from god. That's not boredom.

Yeah, the lynching happened a bit before the afore mentioned riots. And they weren't done because people were "bored". Usually it was for something like a black man "not knowing his place". I wouldn't even compare the two in any way. Not comfortable with that at all. Things like the knockout game and the flash mobs and all the other stupid stuff that kids are doing are more of an anarchy type thing. The lynchings were an entirely different type of organized evil.TPRJones wrote:Back during the previously referenced historical riots, we had people lynching blacks because they were bored that day.
