Over the years I would guestimate I have spent nearly $20k on home owner's insurance, and have never had to file a claim, ever.
Today I found out the insuance on my current primary residence is going up from $1100 to $1400. Again, I have never filed a claim. I don't really like being dinged like that for no reason.
So I went online to progressive.com, which is the company with which I insure my cars (the snapshot program saved me a shitload of money compared to state farm or allstate or whoever the hell I was using), and when I bundled in the homeowner policy it brought my bill down to about $850.
Yeah it is a hippy company run by hippies, but By Grapthar's Hammer, What A Savings.
Also I really like progressive.com's website. You can handle everything about your policy right there without having to talk to a human. Humans are the worst.

And other things (loss of use, etc)

Really? USAA is setup specifically for members of the military or ex-members. It was founded by military officers, and all of its public messages are about US military service, etc. It's setup as a non-profit, iirc, so at the end of every year, if they have excess reserves, members get refunds on their insurance. It's usually pretty small, and maybe it's only for auto insurance.
My duplex burned down about 14 years ago, lost everything I couldn't get out in 5 minutes. USAA was my renters insurance, and they were awesome. Very helpful, very quick, made everything about as pleasant as it could be given the circumstances.

It's not me, it's someone else.
