Just purchased my second thing ever from ebay. The first time was in 1999, and I got ripped off. Bought some item for $5 in UO, and the seller never showed.

This time is Season 1 of Doctor Who (2005), listed brand new for half the price it is on amazon. Says right in the description this is a region 1 DVD... that is important since this is a british show. We'll see how it goes.

I was surprised to see you HAVE TO pay through paypal. I just registered my credit card through paypal, since I didn't have funds in my cash account, so it is all the same. Just seems like a dump hoop through which to have to jump.

Paying with paypal provides the buyer and seller with all kinds of protection though. If they don't ship, or it's region 2 or whatever, you are protected and get your money back. If you dispute credit charges, or pay with a fake credit card, they are protected.

I've bought and sold all sorts of things. I only had one scammer incident, and the seller was shutdown before I paid, so nothing happened.

I was making a lot of money in late 2008 when Microsoft/eBay had these crazy 30-40% off deals. Was BFRing Amazon GCs and iPods. It was awesome. I was a Gold seller or something.

Precision M6300 for sale by, uh, me.

I think I have a spare adapter and a dock around here if anyone is interested.

I also have an Optiplex 755 for sale, but not on eBay

It arrived, and is region 1 and all looks to be well. I am impressed that even with "Buy it Now" it was still 25% less than the best I have ever seen it on amazon. Not even used; brand new. Must be stolen. :-)

Was just browsing ebay to see the prices for series 2.... I found a box set, season 1-4 + specials, "brand new, never opened, region 1", for $69.99 with "Buy it Now." Free shipping.

Presently on amazon season 1 all by itself is priced at <s>$64</s>$52. What the hell?

How often does scamming happen? This particular seller has 16 perfect feedbacks over the last few months, from newbie buyers and buyers with 100's of purchases, alike. And this guy is selling out of Hong Kong.

Well hell, here he is:

Already purchased.... I just like to be prepared for the worst. Some things are just too good to be true.

Most of the cheap stuff on eBay is gray market stuff. Things brought into the country that are either A) intended for resale elsewhere or b) brought in by non-official importers.

I am happy to buy from Hong Kong sellers, but only for non-branded basic gizmos and doodads or if they have 100% positive on several hundred feedback. DVDs from a mostly unknown in Hong Kong would make me skittish. Probably pirated copies or something.

Arrived from Hong Kong, everything seems perfect. Region 1, all packaging and disk art seems to be legit. The plastic sleeves on a couple of the seasons even had the protective plastic screening that you peel off. All 4 season, plus specials, for under $70. Kick ass.

Least the fall from the back of the truck didn't damage anything.

Lucky me!

And I immediately threw away the packing materials, figuring they were made of lead.
