The Smashing Machine (2025)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Looks like the Rock is trying for an Oscar.

The Smashing Machine (2025)

I didn't know Mark Kerr was from Toledo.

This was an interesting, yet odd biopic about a three or so year period of Mark's life. He was one of the early fighters in UFC and PRIDE before fighters made millions. Honestly, the new guys owe people like Mark thanks, and even a nice paycheck. Mark and his crew did it for the love of the game.

This film heavily focuses on Mark's tumultuous relationship with Dawn, Emily Blunt. It lightly hits other areas, such as a brief drug addiction and the behind the scenes of the fighting world.

Rock is unrecognizable most of the time, and he does a good job, but I get why he didn't win an Oscar. There's no long monologues, and the film itself it just oddly laid out and paced. The music is really loud, and some of the jump cuts are disorienting, particularly as the film is starting out. All of the acting was very good, but maybe not great.

It's a good movie, and I love how it ends with the real Mark Kerr instead of Rock.
