It's an interesting article, although I disagree with the implied solution being "better matchmaking systems". I think some people are just assholes.

This quote from the article supports my position, and says everything you need to know about cheaters:
Zero said that if it wasn't for hacking, games wouldn't be fun. He said cheating is a rush, similar to the one he got when he used to deface websites. “In life, you’re always going to have rebels,” he said. “It’s like coming up to someone and asking, 'Why do you rape or kill?' But in this case it’s cheating.”
“Activism is a way for useless people to feel important, even if the consequences of their activism are counterproductive for those they claim to be helping and damaging to the fabric of society as a whole.” - Dr Thomas Sowell

Then go play with the other hackers, it should be more fun for you. Let me know how that works out.

The problem with that is that it's no fun to hack when you don't have non-hackers to grief in the process.

You should understand how that works from PKs in UO. PK is no fun if there are no carebears around to PK upon.

Not saying hacking is right, just that they won't on their own accord go off and play with themselves. They need the unwilling victims of a general population as part of the deal.

That's what makes the analogy to rape and murder so telling.

It's goofy that, thanks to VAC bans being fairly effective, games that are more expensive have less hackers to start with. As soon as they go on sale and aren't $50 for a few hours of hacking, shit kicks off and it's crazy (looking at you, $20 Rust). Haven't seen a hacker yet in the $50 dollar Dark Soul 2 (I'm sure they exist, though)

Blizzard is suing creators of a SC2 hack.

This is pretty interesting.

Cheat selling sites have gotten so big that they have their own customer support.

If Blizzard can win this case, it'll expose all of these assholes to lawsuits from game developers. Some crafty lawyer could also file a massive class action lawsuit against every one of the various cheater suppliers on behalf of individual gamers.

Get rid of the exposure and profits, plus add the threat of lawsuits, and not only will cheaters go back underground, but there will be far less incentive to create or openly distribute them.
