American Hangman (2019)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

American Hangman (2019)

Netflix

Two men find themselves kidnapped by a mysterious man. Soon their situation is known throughout the world via the internet. While the police scramble to save them, the rest of the world judges them.

Donald Sutherland is one of the kidnapped men.

It's fine, but familiar. It's not exceptional at ratcheting up the tension either. Both because it's predictable, but also because the whole film lacks...something. It just never feels right. I was entertained, but throughout the whole thing it just felt off.

The movie is a statement about our current society and the legal process from top to bottom. In that, I think it does an ok job, but it's a bit too broad. I think a lot of the message will fly over people's heads.

Decent.

I was hoping it would turn into a crowd-sourced version of hangman, with the Internet picking letters to keep them alive.

Thinking more about this film, I need more people to see it so we can discuss the "Guilty/Not Guilty" vote.

That's fair. I mean, you probably already knew it wasn't awesome because Netflix movies get a LOT of hype if they're good and this one came out with a whisper.

It's fine, it's just not great. A bit too heavy handed in its message, while sacrificing a lot of realism.
