Into the Dark: Culture Shock (2019)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Into the Dark: Culture Shock (2019)

Post by Leisher »

Hulu

The latest in the series. This holiday is apparently the 4th of July.

It's about a Mexican woman's attempt to enter the U.S. turning into a nightmare.

Yes, there are political messages, but aside from one shot at "the president's 25th tweet today", which made me laugh, the messages are a mixed bag. Sure, they take shots at anti-illegal immigrant people, but they also take shots at the immigrants and those who support them.

For example, the main character has no reason to come here except that she's chasing the American dream. Her life was fine at home. You could make a comparison there about aspiring actors and actresses heading out to California. Then there's the vultures who prey upon them. Also, the types of people who come here are the pity cases, but also the scum of the Earth coming for nefarious purposes. It's all there.

It's very meh overall. Once you learn the twist it REALLY falls apart. The twist is just so badly laid out. As a woman once said:

Not the worst of the Into the Dark series, but nowhere near the top of the list either.
“Activism is a way for useless people to feel important, even if the consequences of their activism are counterproductive for those they claim to be helping and damaging to the fabric of society as a whole.” - Dr Thomas Sowell
