Paddleton (2019)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Paddleton (2019)

Netflix

Ray Romano and Mark Duplass (Pete from The League) star as best friends and neighbors who are both single, and thus, have built a pretty strong bond. They're basically in a relationship without the fucking.

Anyway, Duplass is diagnosed with terminal cancer and he asks Romano to help him end him life before the true misery of cancer hits. They plan it via legal means, which I didn't know was a thing? Duplass works on accepting his fate, while Romano struggles with it more than Duplass. It's actually a very interesting dynamic watching acceptance versus denial and anger, but in the people you wouldn't expect.

This is 100% a dramatic character piece, so don't expect action or chuckles.

As I watched the movie I figured out that Duplass had to have had a hand in writing it. All of his projects since The League have been more experimental than straight stories, and honestly they're not bad. Checking IMDB, I was right.

Duplass and Romano are fucking exceptional. This is not a Ray Romano you've ever seen before. I truly wonder if Netflix made a mistake releasing the movie now and not in the fall when Romano could have potentially found himself discussed for an award. No shit.

I really enjoyed it. It's a good movie with great performances
