I asked my wife and she said that the guy should always pay for the first, and most of the dates, to show he can afford it. Otherwise, he’s not worth it.

Meh. Whomever grabs the bill first.

I say the man pays unless they are doing something he really would rather not do, like go to a musical or ballet. Then she should pay to compensate for his misery.

I would need to see a picture to see if he erred. However, assuming this was only a 5 week romance, that seems awfully fast. It also seems like she maybe never met him. jk
