This was a pretty good movie... I say that not able to think of any "here's the story of this musical group" movie I haven't liked.
They did a good job showing why the group needed to make a song like "Fuck tha Police," that it meant more than they just had bad attitudes. Police were straight-villains in this. This flick makes me think I may have been too harsh in my perception of them back in the late 80s/early 90s.
Morals of the story: police are not your friends, don't get entangled with Suge Knight, and fuck the jews. Ice Cube really didn't pull any punches sharing his feelings on those matters.
Straight Outta Compton - Yay! Plex.

I never quite got it until Rodney King. But seriously, any of those events happening to me would have... well, would never have happened, but would have given me a pretty serious attitude.
Hell, even when I did break the law and get caught (smoking dope, speeding, hacking computer websites, passing illegally), the worst that ever happened is that the police man yelled at me in 1 of those 4 occasions. I could only imagine if I had been them, or black.
At any rate, great movie.
Oh, and according to this awards page, there must be like 3 or more Black Oscars
It's not me, it's someone else.
I can see why people might be upset that this movie wasn't nominated, given the boring-looking movies that were here. Of course, I've only seen 1, and read one book, but Room, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, and Spotlight look boring, and The Revenant just sounds "meh."
And, actually, I would say this was a better movie than Mad Max. I was thoroughly entertained by both, but this was better, deeper - better acting, better story, etc, etc.

Every single member of NWA was portrayed as way, way nicer and more sympathetic than they actually were back then, especially Dr. Dre. I assume that's due to the producers.

Well, duh, who do you think is helping tell the story?

I'm pretty sure the cops were also portrayed as nicer than they actually were.
