TLC cancels annoying show

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Actually, that article specifically points out that "cancelled" was not used in the press release.

That's not a show that annoys me.

I had a long post for this thread on my phone in Canada and as I hit submit that's when the hotel wanted me to verify that I still agreed to abide by their free wifi rules, so I lost the post.

This show doesn't annoy me, because I haven't and will never watch it. I am aware it exists but it dont confront me none.

However, I am saddened that certain shows exist... stuff like Jersey Shore that had a country full of idiot teens idolizing a bunch of new jersey fucktards just brings down the collective worth of humanity. This show, showing a big family, is not even close to the worst stuff on TV.

That being said, any sampling of 20 people is going to give you one or two screwed up people, no matter how they were raised. This guy did some perv shit in his early teen years, got caught, and owned up to it, and apparently the family handled it. If someone can show he didn't get his head on straight, I'll be more critical of their process. If he did fix his shit, then it must be pretty embarrassing to have your teen perv shit sensationalized as a young adult.

I'm curious to know if his sisters are happy with how it was resolved, though.

The Kardashians is still on the air and advertisers can't get enough of it.

Their "pulling out" over shit like this is a joke.

Seems like this going public just victimized them again.

It took about 9 years before this finally hit. The "anonymous tipster" did his tipping in '06.

But they are in the spotlight today, not 9 years ago.

K, to play devil's advocate:

He's making money from the network, who's making money from the sponsors. Do those advertisers get the right to know their brands and products are being pushed on a show featuring an alleged child molester? Seems to me they've had a few years to come clean to those dudes and didn't. Promoting something is ultimately about how much the consumer likes you and wants to purchase your shit. If they find out a potential pedo is making a buck off it, they might have an issue or two.

Secondly,
"The judge ordered us yesterday to expunge that record," Lewis said, adding that similar records are typically kept indefinitely. "As far as the Springdale Police Department is concerned this report doesn't exist."

That seems amiss.

Look, if you make a deal to keep your child-molesting son out of jail you probably shouldn't ever put yourself or him in the spotlight after that. If you become famous or rich, then unless you killed everyone with any knowledge of it that sort of thing will eventually come out.

Given that this was in their history they were idiots for being on TV in the first place.

Roman Polanski got a standing ovation at the Oscars a few years back. No advertisers said shit.

What they should be doing is demanding he never be featured again, and that a few episodes in upcoming seasons cover how the family dealt with the tragedy. How it came out. Etc. They could actually help some people.

At least they were aware beforehand.

I don't disagree. But that doesn't alter the fact that the victims are being victimized again.

I feel like the parents are pretty terrible people. Unlike most that are piling on, my view has nothing to do with their unorthodox Christian faith. And since I don't hold some sort of unhealthy seething hatred for the family out of an unhealthy bigoted place, I don't think that the daughters somehow deserved this.

The academy let the advertisers know that they'd be honoring Polanski and then the audience would give him a standing O?

Doubtful, but if true, that's even worse.

Even when scripted, audience reaction isn't a guarantee. Although, it is Roman Polanski and most of Hollywood is willing to look the other way if you get enough critical acclaim from the right people -- because that's what most actors want any-fucking-way. However, when you're TLC and the majority of your audience consists of soccer moms and the family members they hold hostage in front of the TV, even vague hints of child molestation are enough to rile up the fan base. Duck Dynasty's still on because they don't have a substantial gay following to piss off. This other show is not endearing itself to its target demographic.

Of course they don't deserve this. And their parents shouldn't have put them in a place where this was almost guaranteed to happen to them after all this time.

Yes, the victims are being hurt again. But that 1) doesn't stop what has happened, is happening, and will happen because the world doesn't care about being fair to victims, and 2) was pretty much inevitable as soon as they went on TV and the parents are at fault for that, too. It has nothing to do with Christianity. It has everything to do with stupidity, greed, and hypocrisy.
