I think FOX is trying to emulate CW's success with Arrow and Smallville. (Jury is still out on The Flash.)
Gotham is doing well, but reviews are meh (from casual and comic book fans).
Should be interesting to see how they treat Riverdale.

I liked Smallville. A couple of seasons towards the end the series seemed adrift and like the only reason they kept doing it was because the ratings hadn't tanked. The finale was well done. One of the best series finales I've ever seen. Granted, they had a huge advantage of everyone knowing how it needed it end, so they didn't disappoint a' la Lost.
Arrow has been solid. Flash looks like it's on its way to being just as good.
Gotham... I'm really liking it so far, but I'm getting that same feeling that I did when Lost started. They're really limited in what they can do with this. They're introducing a TON of established characters that they can't do a whole lot with. For all the faults that were in Smallville, they had enough of a mix of established canon and new characters that they allowed themselves a lot of flexibility with their stories. I'm not sure how long Gotham can stay gritty AND fresh AND remain in the established and accepted story line.
