It really comes down to are you running your company for the long haul or a quick buck?

If it's just a quick buck, then ethics be damned. But any company interested in building long term value should indeed act ethically. It makes for much better PR, happier customers, and happier workers. Sure the bottom line won't be as fat, but when everyone loves you because you are just so awesome, you can afford to run a little more lean.
