On Tuesday night, Kepler said her parents, Shannon and Gina Kepler, found her with Lake outside his his home. Kepler says at first there were no conflict, but when Lake came over to introduce himself as Kepler's boyfriend to her father Shannon, a 24-year-veteran of the Tulsa police, things turned violent.
"We were outside for five minutes and that's when my dad pulled up. There was no argument. I walked away and Jeremey introduced himself and my dad shot him."

Shannon Kepler and Lake argued, then the officer opened fire, police said. The officer's distraught daughter, 18-year-old Lisa Kepler, said she couldn't understand why her father would do such a thing. She said she'd met Lake a week ago at a homeless shelter after her parents had kicked her out of their house.
Shannon Kepler's attorney said his client will plead not guilty.
"He has a viable, if not perfect defense," Tulsa lawyer Richard O'Carroll said, but wouldn't elaborate. He said Kepler will be arraigned on Tuesday, but could be charged sooner than that.
