GLAAD pissed about low representation
Article.
17 of 102 films last year had a character that identified as gay, lesbian, bisexual, etc.
That's 16.7% of all films. Compared with the percentage of LGBT people in the U.S., I'd say they were represented fairly well.
GLAAD goes on to whine about how all LGBT characters should be the heroes and never look bad because no LGBT person in real life has ever committed a crime or been an asshole.
Look, I get trying to ensure that LGBT are represented to the general public, and not just as monsters or jokes, but fuck! Allow for some reality and humor too. Nobody is perfect, not even LGBT people.

I really never had much of a problem with the gay community, but I find myself really starting to despise the "movement".
The rank and file gay person needs to check these guys before they create a bunch of ill will and backlash towards them.

I could use that exact sentiment to describe the pachyderms.

There was that one website that posted christian reviews of movies... they even slammed rated-G movies for being against god most of the time... but i can't remember the name. Something like... the CAPP score or something.
Not sure if that qualifies.

Protestants might disagree with you on that. I guess my point is that Christians don't have on overarching group that claims to speak for all Christians the way GLAAD seems to speak for all in the gay community. It's just a shame for them because when GLAAD shits in the punch bowl, they all get the blowback.

That's why I said "one." Here's a more general group of Flanders clones that live in an ivory tower atop the moral high ground in the clouds, far away from us mortals.

That's kind of my point. You're saying "one of" instead of "the one" (as is the case with GLAAD). If the Gay and Lesbian community doesn't want to get painted with the broad brush of GLAAD, then they might want to consider coming up with some competing groups and voices.Malcolm wrote:That's why I said "one." Claiming GLAAD speaks for all homosexuals is identical to insisting that the Pope speaks for all Christians.Vince wrote:That's kind of my point. Your unfamiliarity with the wide variety of voices in the gay community is not their problem.

Well, if their goal is to get their message out and educate people, then yes it is...

True.
I get what he's saying though. He's tired of constantly hearing about how awesome gay people are and how if you don't accept their lifestyle you're Hitler.
He's got a point.
Everyone can point to something that they just get sick of hearing about like the Kardashians or Johnny Manziel or Frozen's Let It Go or Man Made Global Warming or Justin Beiber, etc., etc, etc.
Social issues are no different. Sometimes you can spread a message too much. It can cause resentment.
I'm a supporter of LGBT rights, but I'll admit I get sick of the constant bombardment as well. Still, that's not as big of an issue to me as public shaming. That's a tactic that needs to be abandoned quickly by everyone who does it. Such a tactic causes major resentment and hatred because you're typically trying to destroy someone's life, career, family, business, etc. when you do it.
Education + Tolerance > Public Shaming
