I was incorrect. There is something else to root for in the movie. Unfortunately, the space debris isn't a really sympathetic character but I found it to be the least of all evils available.
If you take away the admittedly impressive visuals, this is a piece of shit movie. It's so predictable, so cliche, so ... it's like a chick flick with good special effects.
