Kingsman: The Secret Service
Casting news.
This is one to keep your eye on.
I read the book, and it was pretty solid. The story is pretty interesting with celebrities being kidnapped around the globe, and a British secret agent (think Bond) being tasked with finding out why. Meanwhile, he begins training his "born on the wrong side of the tracks" nephew and gets him into the service.
The worst bit of the books had to do with the kid dealing with the loose ends from his past, but the secret agent stuff was pretty funny complete with "Bond villain".
Hollywood could play this straight, and just adapt the book. However, there's a part of me that thinks this could be almost a Tropic Thunder type of film. Due to the large number of celebrities in the book, you could make a movie that was serious, but had a lot of fun "holy shit" cameos and one liners throughout.
Picture if you took your average Bond movie, and then threw in moments like Bruce Willis (playing Bruce Willis) showing up with an Uzi screaming that he's been "shooting guns like this since before you were a twinkle in your daddy's eye."
If they copy the opening scene exactly as what's in the book, a lot of you folks here are going to enjoy the shit out of it.

They just ruined it.
Samuel L. Jackson is going to be the villain.
The villain in the story is a loser nerd type. Samuel L. Jackson doesn't seem to fit that mold, but I guess we'll see.

...
Samuel L. Jackson is going to be the villain.
Putting these two things together, what I imagine is Sam Jackson playing the villain kidnapping Sam Jackson playing Sam Jackson. Which could be fun.

Latest trailer. This looks very promising.

So it turns out there's a secret spy agency in England who are big on tailored suits and being gentlemen. "Manners maketh man..." finally, a movie after my own heart.
It is rated R, but that's all for violence and a few f-bombs. This movie is in the John Wick neighborhood, homicidally speaking.
I'll be watching it again with my kid. He needs to learn the importance of the concept of, "Sometimes a bad guy just needs to be killed, but that's no excuse for not having impeccable manners."

"Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid."
Great movie.
It does steer away from the book in different areas, but the overall plot and characters are the same.
They did NOT let Samuel L. Jackson be Samuel L. Jackson, and he was great! I like Sam, but his act was getting tired as everyone was casting him to be him. He's play a fantastic villain here. IMHO, he's better than Mister Glass.
That final bit was juvenile, but hilarious (if you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about) and very nice.
I look forward to the sequel.

I hated that too, but then I realized why they did it, and I made my peace with it. If you show hundreds of exploding heads, they probably would have gotten that hard R.Alhazad wrote:Also liked it. The part with the, er, "fireworks" was a bit dumb.
BTW, did you notice there were two blatant shots at Republicans in the film ("I don't care what you do to her, I'm a Republican!"), and then Obama was portrayed as joining the bad guys and being killed?
Has any other film ever visibly "killed" (not just off camera or a guy playing a fictional president) a sitting president? Couldn't they get in trouble for that? I always thought that's why fictional presidents are always used in movies. Do they avoid trouble by just showing the back of his head and never using him name?

Yeah, that's pretty much basic First Amendment protection right there.
And I can't think of one off the top of my head, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least one movie from the Bush era that showed him getting killed off.
