Because Missouri, like other states, has decided to be a dick.
European companies cut off supplies of certain execution drugs because of opposition to capital punishment, leading states including Missouri to turn to U.S. sources. The states refuse to identify the sources of their execution drugs, saying secrecy is necessary to protect the sources from possible retaliation by death penalty opponents.

Fuck you, legal system. You're killing someone. The least you can do is publicize where you got the drugs from.

Depends on the state. Some have a long history of secrecy when it comes to who does the execution. Though I think that was originally done to help the people doing it. For instance, with a firing squad a number of the men on the squad had blanks in their preloaded rifle. That way no one knew who fired the fatal shot.

It's not the people doing it. It's the means they use. The firing squad at least told you the guns and ammo they were using. The phenobarb they shoot you up with could be fucking Drano.

True, but back when they had the firing squads we didn't have quite so many professional activists picketing everything under the moon and sun. I'm starting more and more to respect anyone's privacy that wants it. I'd prefer transparency, but I'd also prefer people not be dicks and apparently I can't have both.

Privacy is fine for private individuals and companies.

Privacy is not fine for government activities using public tax dollars.

Governments do not get privacy except in the most extreme of extreme circumstances. Ever. I just linked out to another article today where one particular cop had a large problem understanding chemistry ... and that was involving rather harmless substances. You cannot inject unknown chems into death row inmates under the guise of "Well, it does kill them eventually."

TPR, I would have agreed with you 100% before a bunch of anti 1% ass holes showed up at the house of a CEO of one of the financial institutes that got a bail-out and terrorized the guy's teenager who happened to be at home alone at the time.

Wait, are you arguing for releasing the name of the drug being used for the execution or for the name of the company providing it? Those are two very different things. I agree that we should know what they are injecting the guys with.

Both. I want to make sure some fucking corrupt legislator isn't giving his chem company crony a sweet contract. Additionally, if they're buying the death drug from a manufacturer with a history of incompetence, I also want to know.
