So, i've got a little bit of a shopping spree to go on from my Mother-in-law for a christmas present. I've decided to get a new mechanical keyboard, since mine is a pile of junk with sticky buttons (i have no clue how in the hell that coulda happened...)

I have done quite a bit of research on these things and found that the big difference in them are the cherry MX switches, most have either the Red, Black, Blue or Brown. Each offers a different compression force with the Blue's and Brown's having a tactile resistance to them (often better for a typist). While the Red's and Blacks are completley linear and have no "click" to them (usually better for gaming from what i have read)

So my question to you guys is what do you prefer and what are your experiences with a mechanical keyboard?

I know that i like the satisfying "Click" and resistance when i'm typing kinda like them old IBM keyboards. But lets face it, i do way more gaming than school papers these days and i wonder if that clicky feel would be a hinderance or will i not even notice it?

Right now i see alot of the Razors, Corsairs, and Thermaltakes have Reds or Blacks which makes me lean in that direction.

Also if you guys have a mechanical keyboard you really like lemme know what you guys use. Thanks.

I never got that deep into keyboard research. I just looked at the highest rated gaming keyboards and picked a good price point.

Backlit keys is a must, BTW.

True story.

Bah, not only do I not want backlit keys, the keyboard I've had my eye on doesn't have key markings at all.

I just take whatever shitty keyboard Dell sends me. I'm normally on a laptop.
It's not me, it's someone else.

For some reason your post reminds me of all the old ladies I met recently who wanted me to bring them new keyboards because the marking on the X key had worn off and now they could never find the X key.

The only key that was worn.

That seems like a hipster product.

Backlit keyboards are important for gamers who play in the dark.

maybe i'm being a little too picky then. I'm sure that anything will be better than what i have now.

I will most likely go for an LED version just cause i'm not paying for it, and it just looks cool.

I think the LED's are a nice touch, but not as important to me. Its all about the feel to me, I know its a personal prefrence but i'm not sure if i will like the tactile click when it comes to gaming. I know i like it much more when typing.

I had a lesser version at work for awhile and loved it. My typing speed went up about 20% (topped out at 138 wpm).

Also had the added bonus of annoying the IT guys that tried to work on my computer.
