I mistakenly believed the Drug Enforcement Agency listed marijuana as a schedule 1 substance because of sound scientific proof. Surely, they must have quality reasoning as to why marijuana is in the category of the most dangerous drugs that have "no accepted medicinal use and a high potential for abuse."

The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.

Unconstitutional? Preposterous, the constitution has nothing to do with it. In violation of federal law? Absolutely, the law specifically outlines what a drug has to be like to be classified as schedule one and clearly it does not meet that definition.
But all because it's in violation of federal law doesn't mean it's "unconstitutional". Let's not be sloppy here.

Another scientist says the DEA is full of shit for a different reason.
The population study, which was published in the Journal of Pharmacology, looked at data of 135,095 random subjects which include 19,299 users of psychedelic drugs such as LSDs and psilocybin mushrooms. The authors of the study, Teri Krebs and Pål-Ørjan Johansen, found no existing evidence to connect the use of psychedelic drugs and mental conditions such as depression, psychological distress, and suicide intentions.
I'll repeat myself:
Psychedelics have way fewer side effects than your average anti-depressant or anti-anxiety pills. Oddly enough, the former is illegal and the latter isn't and is also handed out like goddamn Pez.

The problem with using scare-tactics as so-called "drug education" is that kids can smell it when adults are shoveling uncut horse shit at them and they know it's all a bunch of lies and propaganda. They don't know much about what the truth is instead, but they sure know the scare tactics are all bullshit and so they tend to not just ignore it but to do so with prejudice, which leads such education causing increases in use over no education at all.
The same goes for abstinence-only sex education. The single largest indicator that a state is about to see a massive rise in abortion rates is when they pass abstinence-only sex ed laws. The so-called pro-life movement has caused far far more abortions than they've prevented.
