RotK: EE - 6 minute trailer

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Not to spoil anything, but doesn't this film end when the boat hits the iceberg?

That's right and then that chick ejects that thing out of the airlock.

Seriously though, I still haven't seen Return of the King.

I've refused to seen these films in anything but their EE versions. Thus, RotK's release as an EE set on the 2nd, will mark the day I finally can see it.

It will also mark the day I can retire the link under the movie section, on the front page.

Until Peej starts making "Hobbit," that is.

Am watching the trilogy on Blu Ray with my kid... it is his first viewing.

They are the extended versions, and we just started return of the King tongiht.

I think they may be even more added scenes, unless my memory is cheated by some spell:

- When the crew confronts Saruman on top of his tower in flooded Isengard, do you remember him shooting a fireball down at Gandalf, Gandalf absorbing it, and then saying, "Saruman, your staff is broken" which is followed by Saruman's staff fracturing in his hands?

- In the celebration in Edoras after their "victory" at Helm's Deep, do you remember Gimli and Legolas having a drinking contest?

- In the night before Merry grabs the Palantir, do you remember Aragorn finding Eowyn sleeping next to the fire in the great hall, and he tucks her in and they have a moment?

I have no memory of these things.

The drinking contest I am pretty sure is on our DVD set, but the others don't ring a bell.

Rewatching the trilogy with my kid again, this week, before school starts....

I think my favorite moments are with Theoden and the Rohirrim.

Theoden, and what he thinks will be his last charge at Helm's Deep:

Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath, now for ruin, and the red dawn!

The scene in TT with the charge of the Rohirrim down the hillside, Gandalf in the van... epic.

Aragorn: Gandalf.
Gandalf: Theoden king stands alone.
Eomer: Not alone. Rohirrim!
[Rohirrim gather behind him]
Theoden: Eomer!
Eomer: TO THE KING!

"To the king."

Then Theodin's speech before the charge the Pellinor in RotK... gives me chills.

"Forth! Down fear of darkness! Arise! Arise, Riders of Théoden! Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered! A sword day... a red day... and the sun rises! Ride now... Ride now... Ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending! Death!"

Theoden and Rohirrim continue to yell 'death' until the horn is blown and they charge onto the Pellenor Fields. I get a chill just writing it down.

People just don't talk like that any more. They should.

I prefer fewer words.
With key Greek city-states in submission, Philip [the II of Macedon] turned to Sparta; he sent them a message, "You are advised to submit without further delay, for if I bring my army into your land, I will destroy your farms, slay your people, and raze your city." Their laconic reply: "If".
Diogenes of Sinope: "It is not that I am mad, it is only that my head is different from yours."
Arnold Judas Rimmer, BSC, SSC: "Better dead than smeg."

Too bad PJ and his crazy "wife" screwed all these up. They knew this stuff was Tolkien Gold, so they had to keep it, but they felt like they either had to re-write it, give it to another character, or use it in the wrong places.

I go about 10 years between my rereads of the books, so I can forget the great dialogue and it seems like I am reading it for the first time, again. It has been almost 10 years since my last reread, and I don't remember misattribution (is this a word?) of lines any more.

Closest thing I could find to a Lord of the Rings thread...

Was skimming a few "Honest Trailers" tonight, and saw this one, which might be the best one I've seen:
<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/AOIi9SjJvgU?version=3 ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/AOIi9SjJvgU?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Brokeback MountDoom is brilliant.
