A Rational Person might wonder if the variation in hospital pricing is somehow related to variations in quality. Perhaps, like furniture or cars, higher price tends to mean higher quality for hospitals, too. Sorry, Rational Person, but incoherence – not logic or common sense – dictates the rules of hospital finance. There is simply no relationship between price and quality in healthcare.

The findings are bizarre.
...was something that would only be said by a moron that has paid no attention to the healthcare industry at all or has absolutely no understanding of the nature of non-competitive business.

I mean, seriously, how stupid would you have to be to really find any of this at all surprising?

One of the best profs I ever had was a microeconomics guy, who used the cocaine trade as a model of a mature industry, and the American Medical Association as an example of a monopoly. He often wore a sweatshirt that said, "Adam Smith was Right."
