“Women in technology need consistant [sic] messaging from birth through retirement they are welcome, competent and valued in the industry,” she explained in a blog post.

Oh, so women in technology need to be treated like children. Noted.

Jesus, lady, do you need your supervisor to to warm your seat, rub your toes, and validate your performance every day, too?

I don't know what she thinks work is like for men, but I assure you it's a tough world out there and no one is going to be babying anyone. You're making women look bad with your whiney "poor me" bullshit. Man up, for god's sake, or go find some rich asshole to marry so you can get out of the real world if it's too hard for you.

Also, she shouldn't have even been there, because I didn't see a stove or a refrigerator full of sandwich lunchmeat in that room.

For the record, I'm not encouraging misogyny. I'm saying the real world involves people being assholes to you. It's just as wrong to expect especially nice treatment because you have a vagina as it is to treat someone badly for having a vagina.

Vaginas can't write or think or do other useful work, so they shouldn't be a factor at all.

So here’s what happened:

1) While sitting in the 10th row of a Python programming conference, a developer who used to work for mobile monetization startup Playhaven apparently made a joke about “big” dongles and “forking someone’s repo.”

1) You're at a Python conference. I'll forgo what that tells me about you, suffice it to say that if languages were vehicles, Python would have nothing but training wheels. Proof?

6) PyCon recently changed its code of conduct to add this: “Public shaming can be counter-productive to building a strong community.

As previously discussed here, public shaming it a vital part of any community. When physically beating the stupid out of someone isn't a legal option, psychological manipulation is the mechanism of choice.

2) Forking someone's repo? Jesus fuck. Were you around for the glory days of mainframes? Again, though, you're at a Python conference. One can surmise you're not a real programmer, so it's pretty easy to figure you never had to learn any *nix OS commands, either. IT is being dumbed down to accommodate people like this, fuckers whose skins are so thin that they seem to have evolved specifically to be offended, even by objectivity.

I will say that at least the extra money we get specifically to market our programs to non-traditional genders comes with encouragement to split it pretty equally between trying to get women in Welding & HVAC and men into Nursing & Cosmetology. But each year we get dinged for any program that has an extreme gender imbalance, as if it's somehow our fault.

You know, stereotypes exist for a reason. In general, women don't like to work with machines, they like to work with people. This one little nugget of insight---which is apparently SEXOMYSOGYNINST PATRIARCHY CRIMETHINK---is pretty much sufficient to explain sex ratios imbalances everywhere. The rest can be explained by one or two more crimethoughts, like:

- men have more testosterone, meaning they're stronger, more violent, more competitive etc
- the IQ curve for men is wider (i.e., more men than women at BOTH ends of the IQ spectrum), meaning the more raw brainpower something requires, the more likely the top jobs belong to men
- women belong in the kitchen, not at pycon. Unless they're bringing actual pie.

Slashdot is discussing it.
If you eavesdrop on someone having a private conversation in a public setting, don't expect to hear a politically correct message. It amazes me that a "strong, independent woman" crumbles into this powerless victim once someone random makes a random comment. To name this event 'donglegate' is quite funny OTOH.

An 8 year girl just gave up on becoming a programmer, because of you.

No. She got fired because of employee misconduct. She tried to make this poor family man feel ashamed about having a penis. She literally took food off the table of 3 children. All because she faux outraged that "dongle" sounds like "dong" and "fork" sounds like "fuck".

I'm so fucking glad she got fired. I hope she gets fired from life. People and their fake outrage can die in a fire, or a Walmart trampling.

"One of these men lost his job as a result of this incident, and we are seeing numerous people blame Adria for that. This is a clear example of a culture we live in, where it is more appropriate to blame the victim than to blame any other offenders."

What the everliving fuck?

She wasn't a "victim" of anything. These guys didn't rape her. They didn't assault her. They didn't slander her, they didn't harass her they didn't DO anything to her. They told a joke meant for each other and happened to be within earshot of her. That was the reason she got fired. She's claiming to be some sort of victim and framing all women as victims of "this sort of behavior" and its just bullshit. You do not have a right to not be offended. As long as that person isn't directly talking about you, thats where your rights end.

Now if they had said "I bet this chick in front of us here would love it if the presenters had bigger dongles" or something of that nature, she'd have a bit of a case here as that could very easily be considered harassment.

It will also put me off talking freely and in an unguarded manner in front of female attendees at any conference. Who knows which one will want to be the next twitterverse celeb getting notoriety by making a big thing out of nothing. That victimhood addict who reported those 2 guys for "inappropriate" comments went on to make very inappropriate comments herself about those guys (search for her TSA socks stuffing comments).

She is a hypocrite troublemaker who is creating divisions in the dev community along gender lines for no good reason only her own need to validate herself out of victimhood. Next time a woman mentions at work how far along she in in her pregnancy, can she be reported for inappropriate comments?Because this is where this is all going.

Imagine 10,000 Adrias with Google Glasses!

I predict a resurgence in traditional men's clubs.
