Read the reviews.

Sometimes, I love the interwebs.

Hutzler? Really? Well aren't we Mr. High And Mighty Money Pants Guy!

I come for a simple middle-class family, and all we could afford was Fox Run. And damn it, our sliced bananas were just as good as yours! I mean, sure, Hetzler is cheaper now, what wiht the sale and all, but do you know how expensive it used to be when it was full price?

We never even dreamed of owning a Chef'n. That would just have been crazy.

Huztler or Heztler, I'm just passing on a link.

Thank you for pointing out how many people make these things though. Who knew so many people had trouble slicing bananas?

Not just that, the review hilarity spread as well. I think Hutzler was where it started, but all the banana slicers got a taste of it at some point.

I seriously want to meet someone who bought one because they honestly need it.

If my MeMaw were still alive I'd probably get her one. She liked banana in her cereal, but the rheumatoid arthritis meant she couldn't hold a knife.

But beyond the disabled it's hard to imagine the necessity.

The target market is the intersection of people too physically impaired to slice soft fruit yet still living without in-home care of some kind?

Yes.

Papaw took care of her, but he had Parkinson's so bad if you gave him a knife you'd might as well line up some balloons because you were going to have an impromptu knife-throwing act on your hands.

I've been looking at so many different banana slicers lately that amazon is now suggesting to me similar items, like this awesome strawberry stem remover.

http://www.amazon.com/gp....=507846

And the first review:

This is a remarkable little device that does what I purchased it to do, remove the stems from strawberries. Unfortunately, it works too well.

First, I removed the stems from the strawberries at the breakfast table. All well and good.

Then, I went into the fridge and removed the stems from the strawberries there. Excessive, my wife says.

So I went to the local supermarket and removed the stems from several boxes of strawberries. The manager told me to stop. But he didn't say anything about the tomatoes, which I began to de-stem. The police office was much less friendly than I expected, but at least he didn't arrest me.

When I got back home, I started planting tomatoes. When my yard was full I started planting tomatoes in the neighbor's yard. The police officer was even less friendly, but he was kindly compared to the warden.

At least they let me remove the stems from the tomatoes in the prison kitchen, and with good behavior, I should be paroled in a couple of months.

So if you buy one of these, be careful not to get too excited.
