Some random person, generally good. Goes through his life not bugging anybody, doing the right thing, volunteering at the soup kitchen, calls his Mom every Saturday. Always votes Democrat.
Then he meets a person who starts suggesting things... they seem just fine on the face, but ultimately everything he does turns to shit... ala "The Children of Hurin." Even the person nudging him to do these things seems like a really good person, too, and is just bewildered that nothing turns out right. Make it really subtle. A general "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" story. Make it a real downer so you can win Cannes and Sundance.
Then in the credits name this person as "Satan." Or hell, name this person "Sauron" and start a new Rings trilogy where Sauron is reappearing in the 4th Age and corrupting shit.
