Honestly don't recall where I first learned it. In my mind I see my 3rd grade teacher telling the story, but that could be me inventing memories.

I know it's a reference I should know, but I can't nail it down. Something historical, and if pressed to guess I'd say it's from one of the World Wars. But I can't recall which one.
