Battle of Los Angeles

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

This is NOT Battle: Los Angeles.

This is one of those quickly made knock offs that tries to capitalize on the popularity and marketing of the actual film. This has sadly become a giant sub-genre. SyFy is to blame for this particular film.

This film is easily one of the worst movies ever made. It's even worse when you considering that everyone involved has Hollywood experience. This isn't a bunch of first timers trying to make a good film. This is a bunch of veterans rushing through something they know will suck just to try and squeeze money out of the public by riding off of someone's else's hard work and effort.

If we got the dtman crew together with a hand held camera, we could have made this film. You think I'm stretching the truth there, but I'm not. That is absolutely a factual statement.

Half the movie is set in what looks to be a quarry of some kind. Oh, that quarry happens to be the military base. This is a perfect example of the money and realism that went into this film. Here's more:

5 F-16s sit parked ridiculously close to one another on a dirt road. There is long weeds and grass not six feet in front of them. Picture the U.S. military parking F-16s on a typical single lane one way road only it's unpaved and everything along the sides of it are not maintained. That's what the filmmakers used as their military base. If you're curious, the runway was also made of dirt.

The "leader" (no idea what his rank was), a really, really cheap knock off of R. Lee Ermey, literally yelled out a window at the pilots. The window was at the top of a wooden two story, and very rundown, shack. That was the military base's control tower.

Later, this leader guy stands outside of the control tower and shoots a 6 shot revolver at an alien aircraft and has success. In fact, almost the entire film features shooting at alien aircraft with small arms (shotguns, hand guns, etc.). Oh, and did I mention the ninja military chick who uses a sword? She shows up by dropping three stories onto an alien ship and stabs through the cockpit killing the pilot and crashing the aircraft.

If this film was made by amateurs, it'd be campy and forgivable. You know, maybe they didn't have the budget or experience...

But this type of film is fraud. I have no idea what the thinking is in legit Hollywood in terms of these films, but I hope they blacklist everyone who goes near these things.

There is a part of me entertained that this sort of low budget shit gets made, and another part that gets upset that someone sets out to make garbage like this to turn a quick buck.

An embarrassment of incompetence or blatant fraud. Either way, this movie sucks.

You ought to see the recent rip-off of "Thor." It's called "Almighty Thor." They still call them Loki, Odin, and Thor, but Mjollnir has been renamed the "Hammer of Invincibility."

I just saw Battle: Los Angeles.
It had just what I wanted to see, aliens blowing the shit out of Los Angeles, and Marines blowing the shit out of aliens.

Oh... and no love story! How many movies can say that?

I give it a thumbs up.
I wanted a blowing-shit-up movie, that's what they advertised it as, and I got just what I wanted.
