The Tim Burton live action version.
So this is about Alice returning to Wonderland, and now it's an evil place because the Red Queen has been ruling with an iron fist. Alice doesn't remember her previous visit, but the inhabitants of Wonderland, or in this case Underworld, remember her...or at least an Alice.
Alice discovers that she is destined to kill the Red Queen's dragon thing with a special sword saving Wonderland. So the movie is all about her doing that, while the Queen tries really, really badly to stop her. Seriously, she doesn't really try to stop her at all until the end when she has to put the dragon thing in front to of Alice, which Alice is destined to kill...
Yeah, it's not a complicated plot.
Anyway, this movie doesn't suck, but it isn't good either. Neither is it boring, but it also isn't entertaining. It's just there. Burton does a good job giving his characters life, but they're all so poorly utilized. For example: Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are probably two of the more interesting characters, and I'd bet their on screen time is about 3 minutes of a near 2 hour movie.
The girl playing Alice is great. Ditto for Depp, although his character (The Mad Hatter) suffers from poor writing. Tim Burton's girlfriend does a really good job as the Red Queen, and Crispin Clover was really good.
Burton's Wonderland was typical of his style, and it works here.
Good performances, despite shallow characters don't completely save a movie that's too silly for adults, and probably far too boring and dark for kids.
5 out of 10.
