Battle: Los Angeles
New trailer.
I'm still diggin it.
Could have gone without the big reveal at the end, though., Would have been more fun if that was a surprise.

"Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid."
Looks decent and theater worthy, but it has enough shaky cam shots to bring back Cloverfield memories. (The cam didn't bug me, but the shitty story did. That movie was nothing more than Godzilla meets The Blair Witch Project.)
“Activism is a way for useless people to feel important, even if the consequences of their activism are counterproductive for those they claim to be helping and damaging to the fabric of society as a whole.” - Dr Thomas Sowell
Simply put, this is Black Hawk Down meets War of the Worlds.
It's a normal day in L.A. and some marines are going about their lives ahead of a planned deployment. Aaron Eckhart plays a grizzled SSgt who is looking to retire and winds up leading those Marines when the aliens invade.
From a purely entertainment aspect, this movie delivers. There is a ton of action, a couple of minor laughs, an interesting premise, lots of military pride, etc.
Just turn your brain off at the door, especially folks who were in the military.
7 out of 10. (Graded without taking the story into account.)
I've changed my mind, I have to put my official grade here, the one that includes the story:
3 out of 10.
The movie is entertaining. The movie respects the military. But fuck me in the goat ass, I have seen few movies with worse stories, particularly the details behind the story. It's not that the overall story is stupid, it just isn't thought out at all. I thought of a better invasion strategy DURING THE FIRST 5 MINUTES OF THE MOVIE (based on the facts given to me then). You're telling me a screen writer couldn't come up with anything better than what he/she/they did?
This movie benefited from a strong respect from the service. I appreciate the fuck out of that. They could've used a few more military advisers to point out all the problems in the script.
If you liked Black Hawk Down or 300 or movies in that vein, you WILL enjoy this film, just remember that the story is complete horseshit.

Was the story as bad as it was in "Signs"? Basically: "Aliens invade despite being deathly allergic to a substance which covers 70% of the Earth's surface."
Yes and no.
Minor spoiler that was already spoiled in trailers:
They're here for the water.
Pretty much every other detail of the plot wasn't thought out well.
It IS entertaining though. I recommend it for action fans. Really. It just happens to have one of the worst executed stories ever.

Here's a bit of ARG to go along with the movie.

I think they are suggesting the US military has been studying this species since the 50's. Interesting.

I don't care what you assholes say, I just watched my bluray of the movie and I fucking love it and I want to be an active duty Marine again with a fucking ASSAULT RIFLE and kill me some fucking aliens.
Which I think was the main point of the movie.
