Apollo 18 - Yay! Netflix.
Ever since Blair Witch ran that idea into the ground, that's a pretty good way to get me hating a film from the get-go.TPRJones wrote:I've never been a fan of the "found footage" genre. But this idea has some cool potential.

Delayed by a year.
It must have REALLY sucked.

"Teaser" trailer? They showed us almost the entire movie.
Also, the first image of them in the ship was full of color and really crisp. That ripped me out of the experience before I could even be immersed.
If this footage was "real" and "not enhanced", then why does it look like it was shot with a HD camera?

Recently, I watched a really well done "found footage" movie, but this wasn't it. That film was Troll Hunter and I highly recommend it.
This turd is about a secret Apollo mission to the moon for the military (of course).
Three astronauts are sent and when they arrive, they soon realize that not only is something odd about their mission, but that the moon is hiding some very big secrets.
The first thing that killed this movie for me is the fact that one of the astronauts is a main character on the show Alphas. So much for immersion.
The next thing that bugged me is how often the director depended on static, lost signals, broken camera glass, etc. to make sure we couldn't see what was happening. Cheap shit and was annoying, not entertaining.
The "big secret" (not the "big, but not as big" one) was terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Beyond terrible. At the very first hint of it, I honestly said out loud, "For fucks sake, they are not seriously going to do this..."
They did.
You know what? Fuck it. I can't hold this back. Ever see Attack of the Killer Tomatoes? Imagine it as a "found footage" film that takes itself dead fucking serious. That's Apollo 18.
Anyway, skip this film and go rent Troll Hunters. It's awesome.
Two spoilers below because I need to vent to others who have seen this:
1. The military is evil, blah, blah, blah. At this point, it's past insulting to the men and women who have given up their rights, freedom, and lives for idiots like these filmmakers. It's also cliche and lazy writing. Why is it ok to vilify the men and women who give everything for their country, but not religious zealots?
2. 17 other fucking missions and they just figure out the rocks are alive on #18?

Ha! I was already in the "this is bullshit" mind frame.
He took them with him didn't he? You make an excellent point. Maybe the cast of ST:TNG found them? They always run into old earth shit.
