Everything that Borat brought to the table is missing in this film. Sure, Sasha Cohen is covertly making another movie starring one of his alter egos, but this isn't Borat. Where Borat was naive, but well meaning, Bruno is naive, and completely selfish.
This is still a movie aiming to show various random people being tricked into thinking Sasha's alter ego is real, but instead of it coming off as a prank, it comes off as malicious.
The gags this time around are so ridiculously over the top that there's no way that most of the people involved weren't in on it. Several could have resulted in Sasha being arrested, beaten, or killed. Yes, killed.
One bit really displays how fake a lot of the gags had to be as it involves TV executives and a focus group. There's no way this goes down without a LOT of help.
And if you love humor about dicks and gay jokes, this is your movie because it is filled with that stuff. Hell, the whole movie is one big gay joke. Gay people had to be pissed about this movie. Sure, a lot of the setups involve straight people as the patsies, but they certainly don't portray gay people in a good light either.
There is some funny stuff here, so it's not a total loss. One scene, in particular, deals with stage parents, and it's both funny and deeply disturbing at the same time.
It's ok to watch for some chuckles, but you really need to go in with an understanding that you're not watching Borat 2.
