Nope. Not the language ... the machines. I saw them sitting under three strata of dust, staring back at me like gleaming, metallic dinosaurs.
EDIT : Boss at school is setting up a legacy systems class. He's got pretty much no idea how to do it.

Regarding the line you edited in:
These aint PC's, expecially if they are older. The older ones need a dedicated terminal, and you don't just boot them up... you do an IPL. That requires knowing when to hit the 2 buttons on the front of the system in the correct order, and what the little blinking light means when it blinks at different speeds and in different colors.
Leisher is actually an expert at this since he has been running them for at least a decade.

I have yet to inspect them closely. I'll see what info I can gather.GORDON wrote:If they have PDM on them, I'd drive out to pick one up from you. I'd love to have one to develop on.

You won't know if it has PDM until you find the original manuals/install tapes, or get it IPL'd. PDM = Program Development Manager.Malcolm wrote:I have yet to inspect them closely. Not all AS/400's shipped with it, depending on whether they were to be used in a development environment, or purely production environment. Licenses cost money.

True.
We actually just got a new one. They're now referred to as iSeries.
Not sure what we're going to do with our old one yet. Yes, it has PDM. Before you ask Gordo, it's not mine to give away...yet.
