Splinter

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

A young couple heads to the wilderness for a camping trip, but are kidnapped by a criminal and his nut job girlfriend. the four eventually arrive at a gas station where they encounter a new life form that lives only to feed on blood.

Combine The Thing with Dracula and you're close to what this film is all about.

Don't expect a huge body count despite this being a horror. In fact, if memory serves me correctly there are only 6 people in the entire film. This is more of a thriller and spends more time dealing with the human beings and their reactions than showing what the "monster" is or what it's doing.

The acting is decent, but not mind blowingly awesome. Shea Whigham easily gives the best performance as the criminal despite show cheesy lines.

The movie actually isn't that bad. It moves well enough despite the lack of bodies and locations. Most of the way the folks react isn't completely out of line with reality...save for one HUGE exception. (You'll know the moment it's starting...and watch as it gets even more ridiculous...) Still, that's a 30 second scene, so it doesn't drag the film down with it.

On that note, yes, there is some bad science going on here, but it's still an entertaining film.

Not too many scare moments, but the film will maintain your interest as these people try to survive the unknown and each other. Worth a rental.

6 out of 10.

Think I caught this on Sci-Fi/SyFy once. I was rather unimpressed.

SyFy? Really?

It just hit the dollar rack. I can't believe they'd spend the money to air this movie so soon after release.

Shit, it was a few months ago even. I'd say at least four or five.

Wow, you might be right. It's on Saturday October 24th on SyFy.

A 2008 movie airing this quickly on SyFy? Good for them.

Hopefully, they've given up on making films...
