If you didn't see Crank, check out my review. Also, stop reading this one as there are spoilers below for that film.
Picks up right where Crank left off with Chelios (Jason Statham) being dead...more or less.
In Crank, he was poisoned and had to keep his heart rate going a mile a minute to keep adrenaline flowing. This time, he's been fitted with an artificial heart and needs electricity to keep it pumping. Same premise, different handicap.
This movie was completely tongue-in-cheek. The creators behind the film make no secret that even they know this is ridiculous. For example: There's a Godzilla-like fight scene. No, really. Picture giant rubber suit Chelios versus giant rubber suit bad guy.
Jason Statham really carries this movie. I don't know of any other action star who makes this film work. He has that personality where he can mix humor with being a bad ass and it's perfect in this franchise.
Amy Smart returns as his girlfriend and shows as much skin as possible without getting naked.
I seriously cannot stress enough that you should not go into this thinking that you'll be watching a straight action film. Think of it as a spoof of action films. Chelios is essentially Jason Vorhees as an action star.
Still, it's entertaining. Nowhere even remotely in the same universe as reality, but entertaining. It's action packed and funny.
I'll admit that while this will entertain action comedy fans and those who like Statham, I can see this film being blown off as "stupid" by most. Thus, I don't recommend it for everyone.
As a serious action film, this would honestly get a 3 out of 10. However, it's not, so...
5 out of 10.
Crank 2: High Voltage
Re: Crank 2: High Voltage
This is basically the same film as the first, but a bit more over the top, with the movie knowing that it's ridiculous. I liked the self deprecating tone of this one a bit more than the first, but the movie is basically the same movie.
