Go a bit lazy and slipped up by visiting a country that might send him back. Honestly I would have just work out a deal sat in prison for the short period of time and then been free to go where ever I wanted.

It doesn't matter the swiss won't send him here so nothing will come of it.

Somehow I never knew this:
The 76-year-old director of "Chinatown," "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Pianist," whose pregnant wife Sharon Tate was butchered in their home by Charles Manson's cult followers in 1969, was one of the world's most famous fugitives.

Article says he's awaiting extradition to Cali, pending a few dozen appeals, of course.

I don't think obama is going to want the heat that comes with all of this and since the US never even asked France if they would jail him themselves people are going to just make this go away. The victim already got cash from him and is asking that all charges be dropped.

I can't seem to find how long his sentence is for?

More news.

Apparently, here's why he was taken into custody this time ...
Polanski had not been arrested earlier, they added, because only this time was it announced in advance that he would be coming for the Zurich film festival and thus the U.S. arrest mandate could contain specific information.

Although the following makes life interesting ...
A citizen of Poland and France, Polanski on Monday received diplomatic backing from both governments, which in tandem asked Switzerland to release him on bail immediately pending resolution of the extradition dispute. In addition, Kouchner and Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski of Poland announced they were writing Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton seeking her intervention for an immediate release on bail and consideration of a clemency decree from President Obama.

We've already pissed off Poland once & we offend France simply by existing. Let's see how he handles this & keeps his "international" approval rating up there.

If he's started serving from day one, he would've been out & done by '86 or so.

If he's been living in France all this time, that might be punishment enough.

Dear Poland and France,

Thank you for your interest in this case. Perhaps you missed it, but he's a CHILD RAPIST.

Remember the standing ovation he received at the Oscars a few years back?

That was pretty disturbing.

Not to mention that he has never paid the victim the amount he agreed on.

Here.

Polanski's attorney, David Finkle, said he couldn't remember details of the case and declined comment.

"It's ancient," Finkle said.

My ass. Fuck you, too, lawyer.

We have learned the astonishing news of Roman Polanski’s arrest by the Swiss police on September 26th, upon arrival in Zurich (Switzerland) while on his way to a film festival where he was due to receive an award for his career in filmmaking. His arrest follows an American arrest warrant dating from 1978 against the filmmaker, in a case of morals.

Filmmakers in France, in Europe, in the United States and around the world are dismayed by this decision. It seems inadmissible to them that an international cultural event, paying homage to one of the greatest contemporary filmmakers, is used by the police to apprehend him.

By their extraterritorial nature, film festivals the world over have always permitted works to be shown and for filmmakers to present them freely and safely, even when certain States opposed this.

The arrest of Roman Polanski in a neutral country, where he assumed he could travel without hindrance, undermines this tradition: it opens the way for actions of which no-one can know the effects.

Roman Polanski is a French citizen, a renown and international artist now facing extradition. This extradition, if it takes place, will be heavy in consequences and will take away his freedom.

Filmmakers, actors, producers and technicians - everyone involved in international filmmaking - want him to know that he has their support and friendship.

On September 16th, 2009, Mr. Charles Rivkin, the US Ambassador to France, received French artists and intellectuals at the embassy. He presented to them the new Minister Counselor for Public Affairs at the embassy, Ms Judith Baroody. In perfect French she lauded the Franco-American friendship and recommended the development of cultural relations between our two countries.

If only in the name of this friendship between our two countries, we demand the immediate release of Roman Polanski.

List of some people who signed.

That's the fucking point. Heavy in consequences? Wtf?

So what's their ultimate threat if he's not released? They won't make any more films? Oh, dash it all.

I'm officially boycotting Polanski, and any person who signed that petition. (unless she's hot and naked)

I'll give a pass to anyone on that list as long as they agree to be ass raped by Polanski.
